Primary Role

Faraz Amin Nomani is a Sydney pro-Palestine activist. He was appointed to the board of Malek Fahd Islamic School in Greenacre, one of Australia's largest Islamic schools, in August 2024.

On 15 February 2026 a video was published to his public Instagram account with the caption "Ameen. Ameen. Ameen". News24 reported that it depicted armed Hamas fighters accompanied by an Arabic prayer which, as independently translated for Sky News, asks God to give victory to the fighters, "make them catch the neck of their enemies... make their shots hit the targets" and consider those who died "martyrs" (News24, Caroline Marcus, 23 February 2026). News24 also published a screenshot of an Instagram story on his account "appearing to celebrate the release of Hizb ut-Tahrir prisoners in Syria". Sky News reported obtaining photographs of him speaking at Hizb ut-Tahrir events about a decade earlier.

After Sky News put questions to the school, he resigned from the board; a crisis communications adviser responded that "the director has resigned". The NSW Education Standards Authority said it would "investigate these matters thoroughly" (News24; Daily Telegraph). The Saturday Telegraph (7 March 2026) published footage of him leading a group of teenagers at the February 2026 Herzog protest in chants including "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" and "lock up Herzog".

His lawyers said: "Our client ceased any involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir 9 years ago and has had no association with the organisation since that time. The landscape then was completely different; he was a young volunteer and not involved in any representative or decision-making capacity. Any attempt to suggest current affiliation, support, endorsement, or ideological alignment is false and defamatory." They said any "sinister imputations" about his previous associations would be pursued with legal action (Daily Telegraph). He has denied any wrongdoing. Reporting for Sky News, Caroline Marcus said his lawyers had told Sky that he had been a volunteer with Hizb ut-Tahrir but ceased involvement nine years ago, "also denied that their client supports Hamas or extremism in any form", and said the social media post "was not intended to glorify, endorse or support Hamas or any other prohibited organisation in any way" and that "the prayer has nothing to do with Hamas".

He had also served as head of philanthropy at the registered charity Awqaf Australia; Sky News reported that his photograph was removed from its website after its questions to the school.

He was MC of Stand for Palestine's "promised victory" conference in Sydney on 19 October 2024, where he said Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and his death had only succeeded in "energising a nation". The Australian described him then as a Stand for Palestine and Hizb ut-Tahrir activist (20 Oct 2024).
